Surah Quraysh is a Makkan Surah and takes its name from a word in the first verse.
You can find a tafsir for this Surah below. The main lesson to take away is to be thankful to Allah (SWT) for everything that He has given us. The example used in this Surah is referring to the blessings that had been bestowed on the Quraysh tribe and how they should be thankful to Allah (SWT) for everything that He had provided to them.
Surah Al-Kawthar is the shortest Surah in the Quran. It contains three verses and its title is taken from the first verse.
This Surah is mentioned in an authentic Hadith, referring to how those that invent new things into the religion, will not be able to drink from the river of Al-Kawthar on the Day of Judgement.
Hadith:
Narrated by Anas ibn Malik (RA): One day when the Prophet (SAW) was still among us, he took a nap, then he raised his head, smiling. We said to him (SAW): ‘Why are you smiling, O Messenger of Allah (SAW)?’
He (SAW) replied: ‘Just now this Surah was revealed to me: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Verily, We have granted you (O Muhammad SAW) Al-Kawthar. Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only). For he who hates you, he will be cut off.’
Then he (SAW) said: ‘Do you know what Al-Kawthar is?’ We said: ‘Allah and His Messenger know best.’ He said: ‘It is a river that my Lord has promised me in Paradise. Its vessels are more than the number of the stars. My Ummah will come to me, then a man among them will be pulled away and I will say: “O Lord, he is one of my Ummah” and He will say to me: ‘You do not know what he did (innovated/invented) after you were gone.’
Surah An-Nasr takes its name from a word in the first verse.
Muhammad Marmaduke Pikthall [The Meaning of The Glorious Quran] states that it is one of the very last revelations, having come to the Prophet (SAW) only a few weeks before his death.
Surah Al-Masad really does put this World into perspective.
It is about one of the Prophet’s (SAW) uncles, who bitterly opposed him – Abu Lahab (Abdul ‘Uzza).
Abu Lahab and his wife made it their business to torment the Prophet (SAW). For example, Abu Lahab’s wife carried thorn bushes and placed them in the sand where she knew the Prophet (SAW) was sure to walk barefoot.
This Surah talks about how the wealth of Abu Lahab will not help him as well as what will happen to him and his wife in the Hereafter, based upon their actions in this World.
Surah Ikhlas is a very short Surah, which carries tremendous benefits. It is easy to memorise and is something we should try and recite regularly InshAllah.
Hadith:
Narrated by Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet (SAW) said to his companions, “Is it difficult for any of you to recite one third of the Quran in one night?”
This suggestion was difficult for them so they said, “Who among us has the power to do so, O Allah’s Apostle (SAW)?”
Allah Apostle (SAW) replied: “Allah (the) One, the Self-Sufficient Master Whom all creatures need. (Surah Ikhlas) is equal to one third of the Quran.” – Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 61, Hadith 534
The four Quls are incredible Surahs, which have the power to protect all of us InshAllah. Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas in particular can help with protection from the fear of the unknown, evil in man’s own heart and the evil in the hearts of other men.
Hadith:
Aisha (RA) narrated: “Whenever Allah’s Apostle (SAW) became sick, he would recite Mu’awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Surahs) and rub his hands over his body hoping for its blessings.” – Bukhari Volume 6, Book 6, Number 535
Surah Mulk is a very powerful Surah and we should try to read it every night InshAllah.
Hadith:
Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SWT) said: “Verily there is Surah of the Quran that contains thirty verses. These verses will intercede on behalf of a man until he is forgiven. It (that Surah) is ‘Tabarakal-ladhi bi yadihil mulk’ (Surah Mulk).” – Ibn Majah Number 3786
